This is the Globe Theatre situated on the south bank of the river Thames in Southwark, in London, England. Completed in the summer of 1599 by Cuthbert and Richard Burbage it was immediately recognised as being one of the greatest playhouses in London, and was regarded in this light until it was closed in 1642. The structure was built mainly from timber with a large majority of the wood and materials being taken from James Burbage's deconstructed playhouse, The Theatre.
